Interior Minister: Jordan remains stable amid regional turmoil

Interior Minister Mazen Faraya said on Saturday Jordan remained strong and stable despite the challenges posed by regional turmoil, noting his ministry’s role in promoting the national economy. In a panel discussion held by the Jordan Economic Forum on the ministry’s role in supporting the economy with the participation of parliament members, Faraya gave an overview of his ministry’s economic contributions, including the visa e-service to help attract more investments to the Kingdom. He also cited accrediting the US and Schengen visas for entry to Jordan along with issuing 5-year visas, noting the ministry’s switch to digital services to facilitate the issuance and extension of residence permits for investors and their families. The interior minister also referred to facilities offered to tour companies to help Syrian refugees in Europe, the US and Canada to reunite with their families in Syria and stay with them in Jordan for one month, adding that more than 45,000 Syrians in western countries have visited the Kingdom this year. He also spoke about the ministry’s efforts to fight racketeering.

Price of 21-karat gold records JD39.2 per gramme in local market

Prices of 21-karat gold, the highest demand at local market, on Saturday stood at JD39.20 per gramme, as purchasing price, against JD37.50 as selling price. Jordan Jewelers Association’s Secretary General, Ribhy Allan, told Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the price of 24-karat and 18-karat gold amounted to JD46.20 and JD34.80 respectively. The price of a Rashadi lira, weighing seven grammes, stood at JD284, while an English lira, which weighs eight grammes reached JD315, Allan said. Allan said that projections show that the demand for gold jewelry in the coming days will pick up, as Eid Al-Adha in nearing, and the social events season will kick off. Gold prices in global markets on Friday reached $1,921 per ounce, Allan added.

FM receives US Assistant Secretary of State

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, on Saturday received US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Barbara Leaf. Safadi and Leaf affirmed the depth of the strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States, and its importance in achieving security and stability in the region. Safadi expressed appreciation for the US support to Jordan to help it face economic challenges and regional crises repercussions. Leaf stressed the importance of Jordan’s role in efforts to resolve regional crises. Safadi and the US official discussed regional issues, including the Palestinian cause, efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis, and the Syrian refugees burdens. Safadi stressed the importance of the US leading role in efforts to stop the dangerous deterioration in the occupied Palestinian territories, and to achieve calm, a step towards finding a real political horizon for resolving the conflict on the basis of the two-state solution in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and approved references. The foreign minister called for stopping all illegal measures that undermine the two-state solution, and implementing the commitments of the Aqaba and Sharm El-Sheikh meetings. Safadi stressed the importance of activating targeted efforts to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis, pointing out to the Arab efforts that were launched after the Jeddah and Amman meetings, to contribute to reaching this solution according to the step-by-step methodology and in line with UN Resolution 2254. He also called for intensifying efforts to create the necessary conditions for the voluntary and safe return of Syrian refugees, and warned of the decline in their international support, host countries and United Nations organizations. Safadi and Leaf agreed to continue cooperation, coordination and joint action to enhance the solid friendship between Jordan and the United States, and in efforts to resolve regional crises.

Aramco, TotalEnergies award contracts for $11 Billion Amiral Project

Aramco and TotalEnergies today awarded Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracts for the $11 billion “Amiral” complex, a future world-scale petrochemicals facility expansion at the SATORP refinery in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

A signing ceremony took place in Dhahran attended by Aramco President and CEO Amin H. Nasser, and TotalEnergies Chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanne, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The award of EPC contracts for main process units and associated utilities marks the start of construction work on the joint petrochemical expansion, following the final investment decision in December 2022.

Integrated with the existing SATORP refinery in Jubail, the new complex aims to house one of the largest mixed-load steam crackers in the Gulf, with a capacity to produce 1,650 kilotons per annum of ethylene and other industrial gases.

This expansion is expected to attract more than $4 billion in additional investment in a variety of industrial sectors, including carbon fibers, lubes, drilling fluids, detergents, food additives, automotive parts and tires. It is also expected to create around 7,000 local direct and indirect jobs.

Aramco President and CEO Amin H. Nasser, said: “Today we are taking a major step forward in further strengthening the partnership between TotalEnergies and Aramco, with the SATORP expansion project being the latest in a longstanding history of collaboration of almost five decades between both companies. As part of Aramco’s growth strategy, the project is anticipated to contribute to value-addition opportunities in the Kingdom’s downstream ecosystem, and we thank the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Investment for their tremendous support via the Shareek program to make this multi-billion-dollar project a reality.”

TotalEnergies Chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanne, said: “This landmark opens a new page in our shared history with Aramco, which we are delighted to be associated with once again. This expansion project reinforces the exemplary relationship that our two companies have enjoyed for several decades in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia”.

The signing ceremony was also attended by Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of South Korea Won Hee-ryong, government officials from Saudi Arabia, France and South Korea and company executives from Aramco, TotalEnergies and EPC firms.

Representatives Council Speaker congratulates Qatar Shura Council Speaker

Council of Representatives Speaker Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam has congratulated the Speaker of the Qatari Shura Council, Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, on the anniversary of the Accession of the Amir of Qatar, His Highness Shaikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to the Throne.

Al Musallem affirmed the depth of the fraternal ties binding the Kingdom of Bahrain and the State of Qatar, underlining mutual parliamentary commitment to expand joint cooperation and further reinforce bilateral relations in light of their strategic partnership to serve the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples.

The Speaker wished the State of Qatar lasting security, stability and prosperity, under its leadership.

Bahrain calls for upholding Russia’s stability

The Kingdom of Bahrain said that it is following the developments of the situation in the Russian Federation, the Permanent Member of the UN Security Council which is concerned with international peace and security.

In a statement, the Foreign Affairs Ministry stressed Bahrain’s assertion of the importance of maintaining the stability of the Russian Federation, under the leadership of President Vladimir Putin, as well as applying the laws in force in Russia, to preserve the security and stability for the Russian people.

UPDA approves 11 new zoning maps; calls for updating ownership documents

The Urban Planning and Development Authority (UPDA) has approved 11 new zoning maps.

This is part of UPDA’s third phase of its project to update the ownership documents for approved zoning maps.

The project is in line with UPDA’s efforts to plan and re-plan lands in the Kingdom to meet the requirements of the National Strategic Master Plan 2030, according to the procedures for applying the Law on Expropriation of Land for Public Benefit for the purposes of planning or re-planning, in cooperation and coordination with the concerned authorities.

The UPDA called on all real estate owners to take the necessary measures within 90 days to complete the procedures for updating their ownership documents located within the following zoning maps:

• Detailed zoning map of the Eastern Sanad region (southern part) – 745

• Partial detailed zoning map for Al Hamriyah (1) – Block 611

• Partial detailed zoning map of the Jeblat Hebshi area – Block 435

• Detailed zoning map of Shabatha and Al Farsiya – Blocks 636-952

• The approved detailed zoning map North West A’ali (the western part) – Block 742

• Detailed zoning map of North Tubli – Block 701-713

• Detailed zoning map of Dar Kulaib and Zallaq- Block 1048 – 1051 – 1052

• The detailed zoning map of the Jid Ali and Tubli- Block 709-721

• Partial detailed zoning map of Jidhafs and Al-Musalla areas, Block 411-425

• Partial detailed zoning map of East Sanad – Block 743

• Detailed zoning map of the Northeast region of Sanad – Block 743 – 745 -625

The UPDA called on real estate owners in the aforementioned zoning maps who wish to update their ownership documents to submit the required documents, namely: a copy of the ownership document, a copy of the survey certificate if the ownership document is old and a copy of the identity card.

If the applicant holds a power of attorney, they shall provide an approved power of attorney bearing the signature of the property owner, and then fill in the application form.

The necessary procedures may be completed either by visiting the UPDA’s customer service centre located in the Survey and Land Registration Bureau building in Sanabis, or by submitting an inquiry request about a land situation via the its e-mail ask@upda.gov.bh or through the its platform (www.upda.gov.bh).

The UPDA said that after the end of the period specified for updating the ownership documents, it will address the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture to complete the procedures for applying the Law on Expropriation of Land for Public Benefit for the purposes of planning or re-planning.
